The most sort after information in the film industry is where and how to raise finance to make a film. It's probably my most frequently asked question and the most difficult and complex to answer. I enclose as many links as I can find relating to the funding and financing of films.

Some good advice:
- Finance is nothing unless you have distribution. For example; even if you get the film made it can still sit on a shelf collecting dust if no-one will screen it and you will not recoup the costs. It does not seem to matter how good your film is, if you can't get distribution you are basically stuffed. I have seen this happen many times.
- Never use your own money. This is one of the biggest, most fatal funding mistakes you can make - unless you are James Cameron and then there's a fighting chance you will reap the returns. You will be stressed out about going over an already extremely frought budget and this stress causes many to make bad decisions. Plus the process invites a degree of luck - both good and bad and you can not only lose all your money, your home, family, friends but also your movie, as the likelyhood is that you may never even finish the film. If you can not get funding it is probably because your project is not ready for it and you need to be realistic and honest about what you need to do to get the project ready.
- Thorough preparation and pre-production is vital. The more preparation in pre-production that you do, the more you will save money and make your budget stretch. The script must be absolutely perfect and locked. All locations must be thoroughly researched. Break down the script completely and have storyboards, shot lists, breakdowns, schedules and budget before you even think about organising who and when. Work out the entire shoot in the minutest detail and have 'plan b' and 'plan c' handy. Good communication is vital and good prep will minimise any aggro, so during the shoot you can concentrate on what's really important - the creative process.
